A divine invitation

About a week ago a good friend of mine asked me a question. It was one of those moments where you knew that God was on what was just said. It was asked to me in passing, and yet I couldn’t seem to get it out of my head—it was like God was cracking open a door that I hadn’t yet walked through. The question I was asked was, “What is God inviting you into in this season?”

As I have pondered this, I began to realize it is profound in its simplicity. First, it assumes that God is actively involved in what is going on in your life right this moment. He is of course—involved that is—yet if we’re honest we don’t often live that way. It’s one of those things that is often known intellectually, but rarely lived from. Second, it assumes that God is intending to teach you something through your current circumstances. But it’s more than that because an invitation implies experience. In other words, God intends to use your current circumstances to push you into a place of experiencing a new place in His heart for you.

When we ask ourselves this question, it causes us to be aware of what God’s intention is for us in our current season. When we are aware of what He is doing, it actually allows us to position ourselves in such a way that God’s intention is actually realized. Unfortunately, it is all to easy to float through life completely unaware of what God is wanting to do in you through your current situation. We spend time with Him, listen to podcasts, and read books—all about great topics—and yet what if God is saying “That’s great, but I’m over here and I’m wanting to do this…”

I asked my self this question. God showed me that He wanted to break fear off of my life. When I became aware of what He was doing it actually allowed me to position myself to see that happen. Within the last few weeks alone, I have had some really scary conversations that I have known have needed to take place but was avoiding them. I now feel like a new man. Because I knew what He was inviting me into, freedom from fear, it gave me the courage to go to the hard places with others and myself—places fear was keeping me from.

I challenge you to accept this heavenly invitation and ask God what He is inviting you into in this season. Now listen and respond.
